Hello and welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am super excited to have joined the Independence team and am looking forward to an amazing year! I started my career in Virginia after graduating with a bachelors in Health and Physical Education. I moved to Charlotte in 2006 to teach and coach. I taught a variety of classes in the Health and PE department including 9th and 10th grade Health and Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education and Sports Medicine. After 4 years of teaching Physical Education I decided to take a leap into Special Education as my absolute favorite class to teach is Adapted Physical Education. I was unsure of spending all day in a classroom without sports equipment but it has proven year after year to be the best decision for me professionally and personally. Prior to coming to Independence I worked at Mint Hill Middle school for 6 years teaching self-contained AU. I received my Masters degree from Winthrop University in 2014 in Special Education. I absolutely love my job and the kids I work with everyday. I am excited to be back in the high school setting and super excited to be back on the basketball court as the varsity assistant basketball coach. I look forward to what this year will bring. Go Patriots!
When I am not at school I love playing, coaching and watching all sports. My favorite sports are basketball and soccer. I currently play on flag football and am super excited to be competing in the women's national flag football tournament in Florida in January. The golf course is one of my favorite quiet places which I try play as much as possible. In addition to my passion for teaching I love travelling and photography. Rarely get a truly amazing shot but the experience is something I have always greatly appreciated. The rest of my spare time is spent going to concerts, spending time with friends and any new experience I can find. I enjoy staying busy and playing with my two dogs; Kelsey, a 9 year old mut and Kade, a 5 year old lab :)
